A small herd of Nigerian Dwarf Goats calls Deep Roots Farm home. Our herd produces sweet milk high in butterfat perfect for making cheeses and soaps. Nigerian Dwarf Goats are known for having a winning personality that quickly charms their owners and ours are no different. Since our goats are small in size they don’t need as much room to roam and don’t eat us out of house and home like a larger dairy goat would.
Anchors Aweigh Tinsel Town (AKA Tinsel)
Tinsel is our herd sire. He is an amazing buck with great pedigree. He may be a bit smelly, but he is a people person who loves to greet us when we visit the barn. Tinsel enjoys a good scratch behind the ear and running the property while he helps us with chores.
Jax Farms Oracle Ki and Jax Farms Q’s Kalliopp(AKA Mac & Cheese)
Our Does, Mac & Cheese, have been with us since the beginning and go together like, well, Macaroni and Cheese. Coming to us as kids in the Spring of 2020, they were our first addition to the herd. They love long walks through the farm’s tall grass and always take the chance to stop for a snack. As kids, they never passed up a lap to sit on while enjoying the long Minnesota summer nights on the deck. From the sweetest kids to having a few kids of their own, Mac and Cheese had their first freshening in the spring of 2022 and have both embraced motherhood.
Glitz (Wether):
Glitz is the farm’s first kid born on our property. Named by our daughter when we thought he was a doe (new to goats here…hahaha,) but the name stuck. Glitz is the offspring of Tinsel and Mac and just like his parents he is full of spunk. He loves to show off his acrobatic routines. He’s earned himself the nickname nibbles around the farm because of the love nibbles he bestows on whoever cuddles him in the barn.
